Raft the mighty Tully River, regarded as the best rafting river across Australia and New Zealand.  Go Wild with the first company to raft the Tully back in 1985... Raging Thunder offers an excellent full day of white water rafting on the Tully River. 

Each raft holds a maximum of seven passengers and one river guide, who teaches you the correct techniques during the day, and who will share with you the history and wonders of this magnificent landscape which few get to see.

The river is rated a Grade 3-4, which means there are some exciting rapids and guaranteed water levels all year round.  It really is a very memorable, fun day with the World Heritage rainforest providing an unforgettable backdrop.

With over 27 rapids on the river, this is the longest rafting trip available. No experience is necessary to raft these Grade 4 rapids.

Tully is Australia?s Best Rafting River
Home to the 2019 World Rafting Championships, the Tully offers plenty of thrills and adrenaline pumping action. Allow around 12 hours for this full day eco adventure. We?ve got two Tully River itineraries, check them out below, which are exactly the same except for departure times.

The Tully River is a Hydro River and we?re informed on water release, which determines when we run. Confirmation of your day tour timing is provided 24-hours prior to travel, so make sure you set the whole day aside for this epic rafting adventure. Non stop action from the put in point to the take out!

Tully River Rafting is a full day experience with departures from Cairns, Mission Beach and Feluga. Pick-ups in Cairns from 6am with a 6pm return to Cairns. This itinerary usually runs on the months indicated, but is subject to change. If self-driving, the meeting point is Feluga

  • Cairns: From 6am - 6pm
  • Mission Beach: From 7.45am - 5pm
  • Feluga: From 8.45am - 4pm

The Tully Gorge is 2.5 hours from Cairns and 1 hour from Mission Beach.

6am - 6pm Times

  • 06.00 - 08.30 Pick up from accommodation and enjoy the scenic drive to Tully via Feluga.
  • 08.30 - 09.00 Comfort stop and time to grab a quick breakfast at the iconic Feluga Hotel.
  • 09.00 ? 09.45 Travel to the top of the Tully River Gorge and get fitted with rafting gear.
  • 10.00 ? 12.00 Meet your River Guide who will give you a safety briefing and paddling instructions before it?s time to hit the water!
  • 12.00 - 12.30 Stop for a quick break to recharge the batteries and enjoy a riverside picnic lunch.
  • 12.30 - 14.30 It?s back to the churning white water to tackle more epic rapids on the lower section of the river.
  • 14.30 ? 14.45 Arrive at the take-out point and change into dry clothes.
  • 14.45 ? 16.00 Transfer to the Feluga Hotel where you can enjoy a cold beverage or hot snack (own cost) with your Guide & crew surrounded by Tully River Rafting memorabilia.
  • 16.00 ? 18.00 Sit back and relax as we transfer you back to your accommodation.

Same Hard Core Rafting Adventure ? Just Different Time. Why? The Tully River is an integral part of clean, green energy production, thanks to the operations of the 88 MW Kareeya Hydro. They vary the water release time pending capacity, production and volume which means we vary our Tully rafting itinerary in line with them. This ensures you?ll have the very best possible rafting experience. This itinerary includes a hearty pub dinner. If self-driving, the meeting point is the Feluga Hotel

  • Cairns: From 10am - 10pm
  • Mission: Beach From 11.45am - 9.15pm
  • Feluga: From 12.45pm - 8.15pm

The Tully Gorge is 2.5 hours from Cairns and 1 hour from Mission Beach.

10am to 10pm Times

  • 10.00 ? 11.00 Pick-ups from Cairns accommodation.
  • 11.00 - 13.00 Depart for the scenic drive to Tully.
  • 13.00 - 13.45 Rendezvous with other (self-drive) rafters at the Feluga Hotel, before we stop in Tully to grab a quick bite of lunch (optional, own cost).
  • 13.45 - 14.30 Travel to the top of the Tully River Gorge and get fitted with rafting gear.
  • 14.30 - 15.00 Meet your River Guide who will give you a safety briefing and paddling instructions before it?s time to hit the water!
  • 15.00 - 18.00 Raft the world-renowned Tully River conquering awesome grade 3 & 4 rapids!
  • 18.00 - 19.15 Arrive at the take-out point and change into dry clothes before the short journey to the Feluga Hotel, a traditional Queensland country pub and the Tully home of Raging Thunder.
  • 19.15 - 20.15 Indulge in a hearty pub dinner with your guide and crew, view photos of your trip and compare river stories surrounded by a living history of epic rafting on the Tully River!
  • 20.15 - 22.00 Kick back and relax as we transfer you back to your accommodation.

What to Bring: 

  • Lace-up shoes or sandals that won't fall off your feet (can be hired on the day)
  • Swimming costume
  • Change of clothes (sweater for bus ride home)
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Money for souvenirs and snacks, photos etc.

Please do not wear any jewellery - it is recommended that you leave anything of value in your hotel safe for this trip.
