The Colours of North Queensland Info

Colours of North Queensland : Fly the colour spectrum of North Queensland and experience the many landscapes the region has to offer. Departs from Cairns. Highlights include: Johnston River Gorge, Undara Volcanic National Park, Blencoe Falls, Wallamin Falls, Hinchinbrook Island, Great Barrier Reef and Cairns.

Johnston River Gorge

Your day begins flying south to the saddle between the two highest mountains in Queensland, Mt Bartle Frere and Mt Bellenden Ker. You will fly right up the Johnston River Gorge, before watching the landscape change from lush rainforest to the orange of the outback as you cross the Great Dividing Range.

Undara Volcanic National Park

Our destination is the Undara Experience in the Undara Volcanic National Park. Landing here, you will be taken on the Undara guided tour, a journey back in time to Gondwana, when volcanos ruled this part of the land. See extinct craters and the incredible lava tubes that wind their way through the National Park. After your tour and lunch at Undara, we take off to continue our Colours of North Queensland adventure.

Blencoe Falls

Flying further south, we make our way to the stunning Blencoe and Wallaman Falls. Blencoe Falls begins with a 90m drop over a granite escarpment, before cascading another 230m to the base of the gorge. This is a landscape of towering cliffs and rugged ridges, bordered by open forest woodlands.

Wallamin Falls

Wallaman Falls is the longest single drop waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere. Standing at 268m, the white water tumbles from the mountain ridge top above, to the rainforest gully below. It’s part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area and home to endangered plants and animals. From the air it is a sight not to be missed.

Hinchinbrook Island

Turning for home, we will track up the coast seeing the stunning ridgelines of Hinchinbrook Island. Protected as a national park, Hinchinbrook Island is relatively uninhabited. Criss crossed with walking trails and tracks, it’s a favourite destination for land adventurers. We then continue south, flying over the Great Barrier Reef islands of Dunk, Franklin and Fitzroy.

Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is an amazing sight. The unique perspective provided by our low flying helicopter enables you to visualize the size and scale of the Great Barrier, which is comprised of over 2,000 individual reefs, making it the world’s largest living structure.

Cairns

At the end of your Colours of North Queensland adventure we return to Cairns, where you can continue your exploration of this stunning natural paradise on the ground, in your time.

In Flight Audio Tour

Your pilot and guide knows this region well and will share stories on the major landmarks throughout your journey. Communication between the pilot and guests is provided through audio headsets.
