The Adventure North Cape Trib & Cooktown Wanderer is for the independent traveller who wants free time to explore and relax in Cape Tribulation & Cooktown.  Accommodation and key highlights are included, most meals are at own expense.

Day 2  -  Daintree to Cooktown

  • 4WD only Bloomfield Track - travel over rugged mountain ranges and river crossings
  • Iconic Lions Den Hotel (one of Queensland’s  bush pubs)

  • Grassy Hill - enjoy 360 degree panoramic views of Cooktown, Endeavour River and Coral Sea
  • Overnight accommodation in Cooktown

Day 3 - Cooktown to Cairns

  • Driver/guided town tour of Cooktown
  • Cooktown Cemetery
  • Historical Botanic Gardens
  • James Cook Museum
  • Nature's Powerhouse: Cafe, Art Gallery & Visitor Information Centre
  • Black Mountain & Byerstown Lookouts and Roadhouse
  • Return journey via the outback
  • Mulligan Highway - inland road of outback of Far North QLD
  • Courtesy drop-off at your hotel in Port Douglas and Cairns

Itinerary: 

Day 1:
This morning we make our way north to the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest.  First stop is Mossman Gorge for a driver/guided walk in World Heritage listed rainforest.  Other highlights include a 1-hour wildlife cruise on the Daintree River, Cape Tribulation Beach and a delicious BBQ [Tour operated by Down Under Tours]

Day 2:
Our driver will share fascinating stories & history as you travel along the famous 4WD-only Bloomfield Track before arriving at the iconic Lion's Den Hotel.  On arrival in Cooktown, visit Grassy Hill for amazing panoramic views of Cooktown, the Coral Sea & Endeavour River before a driver/guided tour of Cooktown.  [L]

Day 3:
Visit the Heritage listed Cooktown Cemetery and James Cook Museum to learn about this fascinating goldrush town.  Explore the Botanic Gardens on a driver/guided walk before a visit to Nature's Powerhouse.  After lunch we depart Cooktown via the Mulligan Highway.  Stops are made en-route at Black Mountain, Byerstown lookout and the Palmer River Roadhouse.  Marvel at the beauty of the outback savannah country with its vast eucalypt forests and termite mounds.  [L] 

Cooktown is one Australia’s most historically significant townships, Cooktown is the location where Captain James Cook spent almost seven weeks repairing his vessel, the HM Bark Endeavour.
Some of the most extraordinary discoveries and interactions with local Aboriginal people occurred here in 1770 but… the history is just beginning…
Cooktown provides something for everyone including exquisite botanic gardens, heritage listed buildings, museums, beaches, waterfalls, beautiful bushwalking trails, stunning bird watching and great fishing – A truly unique travel destination.

What to bring:

  • Covered (closed-in) walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, swimmers & towel, water bottle, Camera.
  • Small overnight bag maximum 10kg (no suitcases)

 Departs: Wednesday and Sunday

  • Cairns 6.45am - 7:15pm
  • Northern Beaches 7.30am - 6.45pm
  • Port Douglas 8.20am - 6.00pm

  • Tours subject to weather conditions, if the Bloomfield Track is closed or safety considerations arise, an alternative route via the Mulligan Highway will be taken.
