Best of the Cairns Tablelands highlights include Herberton Historical Village, Coffee Works, Australian Platypus Centre & Smokehouse Cafe and the Curtain Fig Tree.  Spend the day exploring the high-country west of the Cairns city, sampling local produce in the food bowl of Tropical North Queensland and meeting local characters along the way.

Billy Tea Safaris is a small locally owned Advanced Eco Accredited Tour Operator.  Enjoy personalised tours with your naturalist guide sharing extensive knowleds of flora, fauna, history of the area, together with experiencing the local lifestyle and culture.  Comfortable custom built 4WD vehicles with a maximum 16/20 passengers per vehicle.

From Cairns we climb to 500 metres above sea-level and drive out of the rainforest and on to the multi-cultural village of Mareeba and award-winning Coffee Works for an introduction to Australia’s largest coffee growing region.

Travel on the through coffee plantations, sugar cane, and through the townships of Tolga and Atherton on route to Herberton and its Historic Village, voted on Trip Advisor as one of the top 10 museums in Australia.

Enjoy lunch at Australian Platypus Centre and Smokehouse Café along Queensland’s highest scenic drive with epic views of the Tablelands and the Great Dividing Range. Walk into the forest to view one of Australia’s oldest trees, The Curtain Fig Tree; standing at 500 years old.

Tour Operates - Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday.

Pick up Times

  • 6.30am: Cairns Southside
  • 7.00am Cairns CBD

Northern Beaches and Port Douglas clients will be picked up by International Coaches (pick-up time will be advised at time of booking) and transfered to the Billy Tea Tour coach at Canopys Edge bus stop approx 7.20am – 7.45am .

Clients will be returned to Northern Beaches and Port Douglas after your day tour by International Coaches departing from Canopys Edge Bus Stop at approx 5.00 – 5.30pm.

Seating Info:
Billy Tea vehicles take 16/20 passengers only.
Booster seats are provided for young children. Notify ages at time of booking.

What to Bring:
Please take Hat, Sunscreen, Camera, extra batteries & memory cards Water bottle,  extra cash for cold drinks, souvenirs or an ice-cream, raincoat or umbrella in our rainny season. Good attitude !!!

What to wear:
Comfortable clothes as you are in the tropics, in winter you may wish to take a light coat. Flat comfortable shoes or sandals. Preferable no thongs, shoes must have grip and ladies no high heels as there is uneven ground at times.

Special dietary requirements?
All dietary requirements must be notified at time of reservation, or 48 hours notice we can cater for vegetarians and most other requirements. Your lunch order will be taken at Coffee Works by your Tour Guide prior to your arrival at the lunch destination.

Wheelchair Access:
Is the tour wheelchair / disabled friendly? We can only take passengers that are able to get themselves up the steps in the vehicle or have a carer to help them. They must be able to take walking steps by themselves or with the aid of their own carer. Their wheelchairs must be small compact collapsible chairs as space is limited and can only go in our storage comparments, not inside the vehicles and this must be checked at time of reservation. This also must be advised 48 hours prior to the tour.  The vehicles aren’t designed for disabled passengers, due to the remoteness and ruggedness of the areas visited. Billy Tea Staff are unable to assist with any lifting or assistance due to insurance liability and not authorised carer.

How long wil it take to get my tickets?
Our team are alerted to new booking requests as they come in. During office hours you can expect to have your tickets within an hour or two.
After office hours your tickets may take up to 12 hours to arrive.
